Calibre is a free application to help you manage your e-book library. It includes an excellent e-book viewer, which allows you to read your books on your computer screen, but it can also connect to some of the most widely used standalone readers (Kindle, SONY Reader, Cybook Gen 3, and iPhone).

It supports ePub, MOBI, or LRS e-books, but it can open any TXT, HTML, RTF, ODT, or PDF document and convert it into a standard e-book.

As a library management application, Calibre allows you to add all the metadata you need to have your e-book collection perfectly organized. This metadata can be read directly from a book file when imported, or typed in by you yourself. Apart from the most obvious bibliographic data, you can also add an image of the cover, a synopsis, and associate any book to other copies in different formats. EPub, MOBI, and LRS books can be read using the program's versatile built-in viewer, while all other files formats will open in their associated or proprietary viewers (such as Acrobat Reader for PDFs). If desired, you can convert all of these other documents into an ePub, MOBI, or LRS e-book, either individually or by using the batch converter. Calibre supports conversion from LIT, HTML, PRC, RTF, TXT, and PDF, and allows you to convert from ePub to MOBI and vice versa.

You can synchronize your Calibre library with your favorite standalone reader, allowing yourself to upload new titles from your system to your reader, and automatically update the metadata of a file on a device with the metadata from the library. You can also create collections in your reader based on the metadata tags that you have defined in your Calibre library. This application will also select the best format available when uploading your books to a connected device
